Highlights:
This site compiles data from a variety of sources to provide a single resource for Cook County residents to view who represents them politically from the state level down to local police beats. Users can save multiple footprints in an account for retrieval and syndication. Each political geography is also displayed via a navigable map.
My Role:
Design and architecture. I also helped build a framework for the open source mapping software to interact as a web service for the site. This was my second experience integrating HTML into a Ruby On Rails site.
Results:
The site has received praise in local papers, political organizations and the Chicagoland weblog community. Over 4000 footprints were created within the first three weeks. A second phase of the project is currently underway, along with an ultimate goal to expand to other regions across the country.
